The Museum of Oxford was awarded a grant of £1.63 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund (Full details on the grant) towards the £3.2m Oxford’s Hidden Histories project. This project will completely transform the Museum.
Fundraising continues for this project and with the support of the museum's development trust we have raised £101,000 of a £450,000 target. We are continuing to fundraise but would love your support to make a Museum for the people by the people!
We've managed to clear out the Museum spaces, safely storing objects so that construction can start in the summer of 2019.
Your new museum is due to open in the summer of 2020. We hope you will all be able to join us then!

Oxford’s Hidden Histories will revitalise a much loved city museum and enable hidden history to come alive for our visitors. It will:
- transform the Museum of Oxford with new, larger galleries, a new Museum Makers space and a Learning Space
- make objects currently in storage accessible;
- explore Oxford’s intangible heritage through the memories, stories and objects of local people and communities.
