Name Medieval Jetton
Background

The prosperity of early Medieval Oxford attracted foreign merchants. French merchants regularly visited Oxford in the 13th century.

This is a late Medieval reckoning counter, or 'jetton,' which may have also served as unofficial small change.

The design features a fish on the obverse, and on the reverse a quatrefoil with cross and fleur de lys.
