We are delighted that the Museum of Oxford has been awarded a grant of £1.63 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) towards our £3m Oxford’s Hidden Histories project. Full details on the grant.
Over the past few months, we've hosted a range of fundraising events through the museum's development trust. So far, £101,000 of a £450,000 fundraising target has been raised, including a grant of £49,800 by Arts Council England through the Grants for the Arts funding stream. The team will be continuing to fundraise towards the redevelopment.
Technical design and relocating some of the exhibits will start in summer 2018. Construction is due to start in summer 2019 with the new museum due to open by summer 2020.

Oxford’s Hidden Histories will revitalise a much loved city museum and enable hidden history to come alive for our visitors. It will:
- transform the Museum of Oxford with new, larger galleries, a new Museum Makers space and a Learning Space
- make objects currently in storage accessible;
- explore Oxford’s intangible heritage through the memories, stories and objects of local people and communities.
